"Whoever is moved by music to the depths of his soul, and works on his instrument like one possessed, who loves music and his instrument with passion, will acquire virtuoso technique; he will be able to recreate the artistic image of the composition; he will be a performer." -- Heinrich Neuhaus, The Art of Piano Playing

About Hannah:
Described as a musician whose "passion for music comes through every time they play," Hannah Powell holds both a BM (2017) and MM (2019) in Piano Performance from Converse University, where she studied with Dr. Douglas Weeks, graduating with Distinction in Performance. Hannah has studied at the Brevard Music Center during the summers of 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2022. In November of 2015, Hannah was the winner of the South Carolina Music Teachers Association Young Artist Piano Competition. Hannah was named the 2016 Presser Scholar in recognition of outstanding achievement as a music major at Converse College. Formative teachers include Dr. Douglas Weeks, Ruth Coleman, Heidi Moore, and Jean Cann. During summers at Brevard Music Center, Hannah was grateful to have also had the opportunity to study with Elizabeth Pridonoff, Norman Krieger, Sandra Shen, and Dr. Donna Lee. Hannah continually works on building her repertoire, learning concerti and solo programs since graduating. After one recital, a listener wrote that the "beautiful music almost brings tears [and that Hannah] gave us a beautiful gift that will remain in our hearts for a very long time to come."
In addition to giving solo and collaborative recitals and playing gigs, Hannah is passionate about sharing the gift of music through teaching and has approximately 12 years of teaching experience. Hannah has attended the MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) National Conferences in Reno, NV (2023), Minneapolis, MN (2024), Atlanta, GA (2025), and is looking forward to learning more at the MTNA National conference in Chicago in 2026. Hannah maintains a studio of over 30 students in the upstate South Carolina area, where she strives to help students achieve their musical goals by not only providing them with a firm foundation in piano technique, music theory, and problem-solving skills, but also encouraging creative thinking to get to the magic behind the music. Hannah seeks to expand students’ expressive range and inspire them in a pursuit of the lifelong joy of music making!
Hannah has a deep interest in Polish music and culture, and has traveled to Poland twice, where among other things she visited the birthplace of Frédéric Chopin in Żelazowa Wola. When not busy, Hannah enjoys road cycling, bike touring, strong coffee, reading, puzzles, llamas, and cats.
